Hi Friend,

I was once  told,

“You’re really great at support, but you’re not strategic.”

That was said to me – without malice – but it landed like a gut punch!

Not because it was true.

But because the person sitting across from me didn’t understand what I actually did. (Sound familiar?)

It’s Time for a Change

For far too long, “support” has been treated like a backstage pass, important but invisible.

But here’s the truth no one talks about.

Support is strategy:

  • When you anticipate problems before they reach your exec’s inbox – that’s risk mitigation.

  • When you manage competing priorities across departments – that’s strategic alignment.

  • When you protect your exec’s focus – that’s operational leadership.

  • When you communicate with clarity under pressure – that’s influence.

So why are we still calling it “just admin work?”

Why are we waiting to be given a seat at the table when we’ve been setting the table all along?

The Identify Shift Most Admins Never Make

If you’ve ever:

  • Felt overlooked while others get credit

  • Been labeled as “non-leadership” even though you steer entire projects

  • Struggled to articulate the value of what you do

Then it’s time for a powerful re-frame.

You are not “just” support. You are strategic.

You don’t have to be the decision-maker to shape the decision.

You don’t need a title to be seen as a leader.

But the shift has to start with you.

Three Truths to Reclaim Your Power

  1. Tasks don’t define your value, judgment does.

Don’t measure your value by the number of requests you completed. Measure by the impact you made, the problems you prevented, the clarity you created, and the trust you built.

  2. Invisible impact is still impact.

If the meeting ran smoothly, the exec showed up prepared, and the crisis never reached the surface – you are the one who made that happen. Own it.

  3. You are a leader. Period.

    Leadership isn’t a title, it’s a behavior.

Every time you ask a better question, raise a red flag, or lead with intention, you’re showing people how powerful “support” really is.

Let This Be the Month You Stop Shrinking

You already do the work.

Now it’s time to name it.

Claim it.

Communicate it like a leader.

Because being a strategic partner doesn’t start with a promotion.

It starts with a mindset shift.

And the courage to speak about your role with clarity and conviction.

Final Thought:

Someone once told me I wasn’t strategic.
Today I know better.
And now—you do too.

You’re not “just” support.

You are the calm in the chaos. The pulse of the business. The one who sees the ripple effect before it crashes.

That’s not admin work.

That’s leadership.

Stop asking for permission to own your brilliance.

Start showing up like the strategist you already are.

With bold belief in you,
Peggy
