My passion is helping others be successful and has become a huge part of my reputation. This past week, three people asked to meet with me to ask for my advice and mentoring. These meetings were not paid consulting gigs, instead they were based on my desire to help others. I was reflecting on these meetings and the uniqueness of each person and where they were at in their life:
- A young entrepreneur filled with creativity and ideas for his future. He wanted advice for managing his staff and organizing his work flow.
- A woman that was more senior in her career. She needed help to solve a conflict between co-workers.
- A young woman who was considering possibilities for her career that would match her passion. She was seeking advice for possibilities, as well as learning about my experiences and creating new connections to help her move forward.
As I was thinking about each meeting, I came to a huge realization. I was making a difference and each meeting fueled my passion to empower others to be successful. The time was well spent. I definitely got paid! I was paid with the currency of connection and possibilities.
How about you? What are your thoughts about choosing passion over dollars? What are you willing to do even if you aren’t paid to do it?
